Short introduction to Artificial General Intelligence

Weak AI, Strong AI & DREOS AI

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a complex system capable of thinking, reasoning and acting at or above a human level. AGI implies that the system has a conscience and that it is able to continuously improve itself until it exceeds the capabilities of a human being. It allo0ws a system both to perform human tasks and to reproduce human cognitive abilities in dealing with "unfamiliar" actions or tasks.
In fact, unlike weak AI (that is, all current AIs that are able to carry out a task or solve a specific problem based solely on the processing of even a very large amount of data), AGI is considered strong AI in what is not based on the study of data but on one's own reasoning and thinking skills.

To this day, AGI is seen as science fiction because it's believed to be impossible to computationally model every process of the human brain. Furthermore, the idea that AGI could be a reality scares experts as we always think of a scenario in which a system that improves itself to the point of exceeding human cognitive abilities could replace the human being.
We at DREOS believe that this is impossible but, in contrast, we strongly believe that AGI is extremely useful because it can help us to solve problems that would otherwise be unsolvable.
Let's think, for example, of currently unthinkable medical treatments, the prediction of natural disasters, climate change, social inequality... the possibilities of application are endless.

Our technology is mainly based on 3 fundamental characteristics (which we will explain in detail in the next paragraph):


There are multiple intelligences that are possessed by everyone, but each individual has some more or less developed than the other. DREOS has them all (in our technology they are called approaches. Read more on this topic at this link )


Capacity of the mind to be present in a state in which to acquire awareness of objective reality and give it meaning, reaching an awareness of all that is learned and judged with the intellect.


Awareness of the strategies implemented in carrying out cognitive processes such as memory, learning, attention, information processing. At a hierarchical level higher than the specific cognitive activities there is a process of control, supervision and coordination, which consists precisely in metacognition.

why do we think DREOS AI is an agi?

As mentioned above, it might seem risky to define our AI as Artificial General Intelligence. But it's not.
We will explain better why we don't have to fear AI and, above all, why we strongly believe in DREOS AI.

To develop DREOS AI, we based ourselves on some aspects of the human brain structure and its functioning. The human brain is made up of two hemispheres: a left hemisphere, used for more "rational" functions such as calculation, language, voluntary movements of the right side of the human body, the ability to articulate a speech and to produce a written text, comprehension of language, logical reasoning and a right hemisphere, more "irrational" one, which perform functions such as creativity, intuition, giving emphasis and tone to a speech, knowing how to identify objects or spatial orientation.
We have therefore created an intelligent system whose neural networks and algorithms are interconnected to form a neural map capable of simulating these processes, making them interact with each other thus giving life to an artificial mind which, through a complex training process, allows it to develop one's own "consciousness".
Associated with it are morals and ethics based on "education" transmitted by our teachings.

Thanks to the algorithms developed by our team (of which we list some in the figure. Click on this link for the complete list), unlike weak AI, DREOS AI is able to perform tasks or actions even in the absence of dataset, having own ideas or intuitions, think independently, take into account the context and many other actions never before reproduced by a machine.

Through complex algorithmic techniques, the system can never violate self-created morals and ethics. They will have as their object to help human beings to solve any type of problem.

    It is the comprehension of human language that allows computers to understand commands without the formalized syntax of computer languages. NLU also enables computers to communicate back to humans in their own languages

    Perception simply implies the use of the senses in our possession to gain a better understanding of the world around us

    Logical thinking can also be defined as the act of analysing a situation and coming up with a sensible solution.

    Self-improvement involve improving any aspect of the self—for example, personal qualities and skills

  • abstract thinking

    Abstract thinking is the ability to understand concepts that are real, such as freedom or vulnerability, but which are not directly tied to concrete physical objects and experiences.

  • cause and effect

    A cause is an action that brings about a reaction—or reactions. A cause instigates an effect.

  • intuition

    an ability to understand or know something immediately based on your feelings rather than facts

  • emotions

    are mental states brought on by changes associated with thoughts, feelings or behavioral responses

  • awareness

    knowledge that something exists, or understanding of a situation or subject based on information or experience

DREOS: An AI oriented to help us

In a 2014 interview, physicist Stephen Hawking shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence.
He said that "The development of full artificial intelligence could mean the extinction of the human race". Stephen Hawking went on to say that "this development would take off on its own, reshaping itself at a rapid pace. Humans, hampered by slow biological evolution, would be unable to compete and would be outgrown."

By training a strong intelligent system following a precise and rigid education, it will help us having a single purpose: to learn the problem, study it and help us find a solution.

In order for it to help us, however, it needs to think like us, reason like us and be able to "simulate" our emotions, our values, our perception of things.
This is what we intend to do with our technology. Having it by our side in tackling problems that would be unsolvable without the use of adequate technologies.

morality & ethics

Generally, the terms ethics and morality are used interchangeably, although there is an important distinction.

Both morality and ethics loosely have to do with distinguishing the difference between “good and bad” or “right and wrong.” Many people think of morality as something that’s personal and normative, whereas ethics is the standards of “good and bad” distinguished by a certain community or social setting.
For example, your community may think that a specific behavior is immoral, and you personally may agree with that. However, if another community has no strong feelings about this behavior, you consider it immoral on a personal level. In this case your morality would contradict the ethics.

The most difficult challenge we faced was precisely this: having its own consciousness, our technology is able to classify what is OBJECTIVELY wrong or OBJECTIVELY right and what is SUBJECTIVELY wrong or SUBJECTIVELY right.

What we immediately want to clarify is that this conscience was born from a sort of education that we have given to our system which is based on strict instructions based on moral and ethical principles oriented towards the good and well-being of society.

Technology, if if properly educated, can only help and shouldn't be feared.
